Learning German
Even though English is the language of our Master’s course, knowledge of German is essential in everyday life in Germany. We therefore recommend that our students take language courses during their studies or, ideally, acquire a basic knowledge of German before starting their studies.
Language courses
The Centre for Foreign Language Training provides courses in German as a foreign language and also courses in several other languages. Usually you have to register for the courses at the beginning of each semester. The service is provided free of charge.

Moreover Online Language Modules (OLM) for self-learning are offered. The modules are aimed at beginners at level A0/A1 and are ideal for preparing your visit to the Ruhr University Bochum. You can find all further information on registration here: https://unic.eu/en/online-language-modules
International Office
The International Office of the RUB offers several possibilities to get in contact with the German language, e.g. excursions, presentations and discussions, celebrations, international evenings and more.
